Vented Laboratory Microwave OvensWhich Microwave Is Right For Me?It all depends on what you'll be using the unit for. To begin, all our microwaves feature external venting, tall chambers to accommodate bulky containers and equipment, recognizable icon-based controls, and easy-care exteriors and interiors. All have been designed to be as economical to purchase, simple to install, easy to use, and versatile as possible. Good:If the unit will be used as a replacement for a "kitchen" microwave without a temperature probe, the H1850, at $1749 suggested list price, is a good choice. The H1850 can be used for special stains, but results will be improved with the H2250 (below). Better:If the unit will be used for special stains or more critical operations where a temperature probe is not used, the H2250, at $2999 suggested list price, is a better choice than the H1850. The H2250 adds adjustable air agitation, a short 2-second magnetron cycle and continuously-adjustable power controller. Best:If you will perform any operation requiring precise temperature control, such as tissue processing, the H2850, at $8875 suggested list price, is required. It utilizes an immersion-type probe, the most accurate for reagent volumes typically encountered in the anatomic pathology lab. Some options to consider: if thick and/or fatty samples will be processed, the vacuum option for the H2850 is essential. If the temperature of paraffin must be raised in the microwave (not just maintained), check out our PolarHeat sheets that offer time savings and tissue protection. And while we don't require proprietary reagents, some operations like microwave-assisted fixation, or processing of extra thick (~ 5mm) and fatty samples, are vastly improved with EBS formulations. ![]() Preserve |
